Normal Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. May be required to work rotating shifts or report on a scheduled off-day for special situations or emergencies.
Salary: $63,844 per year
Job Summary: As an HVAC Mechanic II at Jacksonville State University, you will perform service and maintenance on various refrigeration and air conditioning installations and equipment. You will work at the journeyman level under the direction of a senior-level HVAC mechanic or supervisor, reviewing your tasks for compliance with instructions and completion.
Key Responsibilities:
• Install and maintain air conditioning units and adjust temperature controls in window units, reciprocating units, centrifugal units, ice machines, freezers, and refrigerators.
• Maintain and repair heating units such as heat pumps, gas furnaces, steam converters, gas boilers, and gas water heaters.
• Lubricate fan compressor motors; adjust automatic valves and controls, condenser and evaporator; replace belts, pulleys, fly wheels, and fuses; check for refrigerant leaks and replace refrigerant as needed.
• Install and maintain pumps used to transfer fluid to heating or cooling systems such as water or Freon.
• Remove, disassemble, repair, rebuild, and install motors or pumps used in heating or cooling units.
• Perform basic and general maintenance and repair such as pipefitting, welding, and electrical restoration.
• Drive university trucks and vans.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Possess manual dexterity to manipulate small hand tools; visual acuity sufficient to read gauges and thermometers and inspect small parts; hearing sufficient to distinguish proper functioning of units and diagnose problems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
To be considered for this role, you must have:
• A two-year degree from a technical college in HVAC.
• Four years of full-time work experience in commercial HVAC.
• A valid Alabama driver's license.
• Possession of a universal refrigerant transition and recovery certification issued by the EPA.
