What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The starting hourly base pay range (not including differential pay) for this position is $37.00-41.00/hour, based on experience and education. Plus, we pay extra for Shift Differential Pay on Swing and Graveyard shifts. We pay 7% extra pay on top of base pay for Swing shifts, and 12% extra pay on top of base pay for Graveyard shifts. (Starting Pay Rates with Shift differential included: Swing $39.59-43.87/hour and Graveyard $41.44-45.92/hour).

Location
Denver International Airport, 8500 Pena Blvd. Denver, CO 80249.
This position works 4 days a week, 10 hours a day. Day shift, Swing shift, or graveyard shift. Shifts are either Sunday to Wednesday, or Wednesday to Saturday. Optional overtime (plenty available if you so choose!). On Call Snow/Emergency duties required (October through May).
Please note: All employees start training on day shift (6am to 4pm). After 3–6-month training period, you will be assigned your normal shift. Shift bids every June, based on seniority.
What You’ll Do

Responsibilities include:
• Perform as a lead worker on assigned projects, instruct specific tasks to crew members and monitors work to ensure duties are properly performed. Monitors the work of contractors on specific projects and provide updates to supervisor. Oversee crew assignments during supervisor absence. Plans and coordinates installation, maintenance, and repair work with other trade areas
• Repair and/or replace HVAC equipment in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and code requirements. Diagnose, analyze, and identify system malfunction to determine the cause of problem and make necessary repairs
• Maintain, repair and/or replace equipment such as refrigerant compressors, air handling and associated equipment, variable frequency drives, pumps, heating, and cooling roof top units, and electric and pneumatic temperature controls
• Operate, maintain, replace, and repair commercial/industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems, controls, and related equipment. Monitor programs and updates building (BAS) automated systems to obtain maximum agreed upon efficiency
• Repair, or replace electrical and electronic circuit boards, capacitors, transformers, relays, contactors, fuses, and pilot ignition systems
• Maintain records and prepares reports, and estimates materials, labor, and equipment costs
• Participate in snow removal duties and/or critical incident response
• Install, calibrate, and repair heating and cooling pneumatic and direct digital controllers, temperature and pressure sensors, damper and valve actuators, thermostats, and switching relays
• Replace, install, and rebuild electric motors from fractional hp to 100hp. Replace belts, pulleys, and pillow block bearings on fan shafts up to 3" diameter; Install and rebuild centrifugal pumps for hot and chilled water systems. Balance air distribution and exhaust duct systems. Prepare work plans using blueprints, sketches, and schematics
• Respond to assigned daily work orders associated with HVAC complaints. Performs general plant and building maintenance repair. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills as well as HVAC systems expertise. Teamwork is key to our operations, and we are looking for candidates that value collaboration.
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
• HVAC experience (residential or commercial)
• High level of skill in HVAC preventive maintenance, repairs, and project work
• Building Automation System experience preferred
• Pipefitter experience helpful (knowledge/skills to repair leaks, valves, seals, pipe repair, etc)
• Computer skills and experience with Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
• Excellent customer service skills; Ability to adapt and learn new systems
• Flexibility to work varied shifts based on business needs
• Team oriented; Willingness to help out where needed
• Ability to obtain HVAC certification by end of six-month probationary period: Heating and Ventilating Journeyman or Refrigeration Journeyman
Required Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
• Experience: Two (2) years of professional journey level HVAC experience
• Licensures/Certification(s): This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
• Possession of CFC (universal EPA) at time of application
• Possession of Heating and Ventilating Journeyman OR Refrigeration Journeyman certificate issued by the City and County of Denver by the end of the probationary period
• Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
• Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
