Position: Controls HVAC Maintenance Mechanic (pneumatics experience required)

Position Overview:
• Performs maintenance, installation and repair work on HVAC systems, equipment and components. Also, performs installations, repairs and fabrication of sheet metal/metal components related to HVAC and other trades.
Location:
• The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Facilities Department located in Baltimore, MD.
Schedule:
• 7:00AM – 3:30PM

Authority / Decision-Making:
• Makes decisions based on trade practices and supervisor direction.
• Recommends and participates in departmental HVAC operations development.
Supervisory Responsibility:
• Trains peer and lower level positions as directed by supervisor.
Problem Solving:
• Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses and resolves routine HVAC equipment problems.
Information Management:
• Reads and interprets schematic and construction drawings, service manuals and other technical documents.
• Follows instructions provided by blueprints and work orders.
• Communicates with supervisor and departmental staff.
Working Conditions:
• Works in shop and mechanical area environments with exposure to dust, heat, cold, noise and fumes.
• Work may be performed outdoors with exposure to extreme temperatures.
• Gets into/works within confined spaces and in awkward positions.
• Works at heights of up to 30 feet above surface using ladders, lifts and equipment.
• Work requires ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time.
• Work requires ability to load/unload and transport tools and equipment.
• Works with systems which involve risk of exposure to disease.
• Work requires the use of protective safety devices.
Education:
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of formal training in the HVAC trade.
Work Experience:
• 5 years related work experience.
• Must have pneumatics experience.
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of HVAC theory, techniques, codes, procedures and materials.
• Knowledge of safety rules and practices.
Skills:
• Applies HVAC, sheet metal and safety knowledge.
• Safely uses tools and equipment.
• Possesses the ability to solve problems and manage information.
• Requires proficient written and verbal English communication skills.
Machines, Tools, Equipment:
• All types of tools and equipment normally used in the HVAC trade.
