HVAC Engineer, McGregor Square
ABOUT US:
In the heart of Lower Downtown Denver (LoDo), adjacent to Coors Field, McGregor Square ushers in a new chapter of urban living, entertainment, food, and business travel in Colorado’s historic city. Spanning an entire block, it includes The Rally Hotel, McGregor Square Residences, McGregor Square Offices, various restaurants, retail outlets, and an expansive food hall, all circling a 17,000-square-foot plaza complete with a stadium-sized LED screen.
The central outdoor plaza serves as a pre and post-game gathering place for Rockies fans and a year-round destination for concerts, festivals, and movie nights. Retail and restaurants, multi-family residences, a hotel, and office space combine to create a rich sense of place and an inspiring vacation destination.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The HVAC Engineer operates and maintains all mechanical equipment and related systems to provide adequate utilities such as heat and power for refrigeration, air conditioning, and other services for McGregor Square. This position requires extensive engineering and maintenance skills and the desire to problem-solve, work effectively with vendors, residents, and management, and maintain the overall excellence of all common area equipment and systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain the physical plant of the property.
• Read, log, track, and interpret readings from meters, gauges, and other measuring devices.
• Monitor and inspect boiler equipment, valves, gauges, etc. Inspect, repair, and maintain HVAC, air quality control, and refrigeration equipment.
• Test and treat closed loop systems to promote efficient operation and prevention of corrosion.
• Inspect closed and open looped cooling tower systems to provide balanced water, system efficiency, and prevent biological growth.
• Diagnose malfunctioning electrical systems, apparatus, and components.
• Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures.
• Responsible for installing, preventive maintenance, and repairing all HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical equipment and related systems.
• Possess hands-on skills and knowledge to complete required repairs and maintenance on commercial HVAC systems (including pumps, motors, air handlers, automation/controls systems, and associated electrical systems) using industry-standard tools and following all codes, laws, and regulations
• Perform preventive maintenance and necessary repairs on all equipment, including kitchen, laundry, boiler, plumbing, pool, HVAC, electrical and guest rooms.
• Replace HVAC filters, clean A.C. unit coils, replace drive belts, lubricate bearings and pumps, log equipment information, and make operational adjustments on the BMS system and equipment. Repair Fan Coils, FPB’s and VAV’s.
• Complete maintenance requests, take equipment and meter readings and maintain a log to notify the next shift. Maintain proper records of the Preventive Maintenance Program and the Work Order Program. Complete work order request forms on a daily and timely basis.
• Must handle multiple projects, changing priorities, and continually heavy workloads.
• Call requirements to handle all maintenance calls before, during, and after hours.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work is assigned using verbal or written orders and carried out by the position following standard heating and air conditioning trade practices.
• Work is subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion.
• Utilize blueprints, equipment diagrams, and manufacturer’s installation manuals to complete assigned projects.
• Survey mechanical systems, ductwork, hydronic piping, and plans.
• Troubleshoot low-voltage electrical systems and circuitry.
• Expected to exercise independent judgment in times of immediate need or emergencies.
• HVAC assignments will include work at McGregor Square that will be assigned via work orders or PMs via Angus, the work order system.
• Monitor and work with contracted mechanical contractors at McGregor Square on maintenance or capital repair projects.
• Assists in other work areas in the department, ballpark, or McGregor Square, as needed or directed by the Senior Director of Engineering.
• Clean and maintain all equipment and work areas.
• Coordinates outside subcontract vendors (mechanical, fire alarm, etc.).
• Carry a portable radio, stay in constant communication with the central base station, respond to all engineering service calls, prioritize guest/owner requests, and maintain equipment efficiently, safely, and accident-free.
• Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
• Duties are not explicitly limited to the identified areas listed above. You will be required to be on call for off-hours emergency calls.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Stationary Engineer License required
• Universal Refrigeration Certificate -EPA Section 608 Technician Certification required
• Licensed in the State of Colorado required
• Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards
• High School Diploma or GED
• 8 yrs. Maintenance Background, preferably with experience providing maintenance on a large commercial building
• Computer Skills – Word, Excel, Outlook, pdf software (Preferred)
• Operating equipment used in the building trades – forklifts, lifts, carts, etc.
• A driver’s license in good standing
• Building automation system knowledge – Niagara AX
• Consistent, punctual, and regular attendance
• Professional image and demeanor
• Customer Service oriented & strong customer service skills
• Strong ability to work well with co-workers, as a team, and with supervisors in a team environment
WORKING CONDITIONS/WORK SCHEDULE:
• Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, tools, and materials (up to 50 lbs regularly, with occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs).
• Ability to carry HVAC units, parts, and tools to and from work sites, including in confined or challenging spaces.
• Frequent use of ladders, scaffolding, and lifts to access elevated work areas such as rooftops, ceilings, and HVAC systems in tall buildings.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders safely and maintain balance while working in elevated or awkward positions.
• Frequent kneeling, squatting, or crouching to access HVAC equipment in tight spaces or on floors and ceilings.
• Ability to work in low or confined spaces, such as utility closets, crawl spaces, and mechanical rooms.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting to install, repair, and maintain HVAC systems.
• Ability to reach overhead to install or repair HVAC components and work in tight or obstructed spaces.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods, sometimes in uneven or outdoor terrain, to perform routine inspections and repairs across various areas of the property (residential, hotel, business, and outdoor).
• Ability to walk on hard surfaces, grass, or gravel while carrying tools and materials.
• Ability to use hand, power, and diagnostic equipment with precision and safety.
• Ability to manipulate small parts and components in confined or hard-to-reach spaces.
• Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands and arms (e.g., turning valves, using tools, and repairing components) during routine work.
• Ability to see clearly, read gauges, inspect equipment, and precisely complete tasks.
• Ability to hear and understand verbal instructions, warning signals, and environmental sounds (e.g., operating machinery, equipment, alarms, or calls for assistance).
• Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including but not limited to:
• Indoor environments (offices, mechanical rooms, hallways, etc.).
• Outdoor environments (rooftops, parking lots, grounds, etc.) in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to work in high and low temperatures, dusty or noisy environments, and near chemicals or other potentially hazardous materials.
• Ability to safely work at heights using ladders, lifts, or scaffolding for installations, repairs, and inspections on roofs, walls, or other elevated structures.
• Ability to work extended hours, including evening, weekend, or emergency shifts, as needed.
• Ability to work under physically demanding conditions for extended periods, including performing repairs or installations in difficult or remote locations.
• Regular exposure to all weather conditions, both in extreme cold and heat
• Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud, up to 130 decibels for short durations, with appropriate hearing protection
• Must be able to work Mon. thru Fri. 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, flexible hours which include nights and weekends as needed (Ability to attend classes and work mandatory overtime as the business requires). Hours may vary due to project requirements, such as game day duties, special event schedules, and season preparation.
• This position will require being on call for off-hours emergency calls or providing support for service issues or failures at any time.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
• Hourly Range of $36-41. This is a regular status, full-time position.
