Job Summary: Performs a wide variety of skilled tasks related to the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning units for the Gaming Enterprise Division's (GED) buildings and facilities. This is the first in a series of four (4) classifications. Incumbents are supervised closely and generally do not make independent decisions or judgments.
Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):
• Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and replaces filters, motors, pumps, fans, high voltage distribution panels, sub panels, building generator backup components, boiler components, and air handler components, to include cooling towers and air cooled condensers.
• Inspects air-conditioning units to ensure efficient operation.
• Performs regularly scheduled maintenance on heating and cooling units.
• Performs diagnostic assessment of mechanical and electrical malfunctions; installs, replaces or repairs damaged equipment; calibrates thermostatic controls.
• Installs new heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
• Repairs and replaces damaged or worn heating, ventilation and air-conditioning parts and equipment; repairs or replaces low and high pressure liquid lines.
• Inspects and observes pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of units and make necessary adjustments.
• Inspects and services refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, ice machines, gas packs, and heat pumps.
• Maintains the chilled and hot water supply systems.
• Adjusts and maintains internal electrical and electronic control systems; cleans coils and blowers and checks motors and belt tensions.
• Assembles and installs metal ductwork.
• Assists in the planning and design of new installations of heating and air-conditioning systems.
• Maintains maintenance records as required by pertinent regulations
• Tests equipment, megohmeters, multimeters, ammeters, inductance testers, high voltage testers, low voltage testers (4-20mA), anemometers, magnehelics and psychrometers.
• Responds to after-hours emergency calls, as needed.
• Maintains a clean and safe work area.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of HVAC maintenance and repair as well as hazard and safety practices common to the trade.
• Knowledge of HVAC controls and safety devices, appropriate MSDS sheets, tools of the trade, as well as materials and refrigerant recovery equipment and procedures used in installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC systems.
• Knowledge of computerized electrical circuits and systems as they relate to air-conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigerated cooling.
• Knowledge of sheet metal, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
• Knowledge of different types of filters, belts, and sheaves.
• Knowledge of boiler control and building fire alarm systems.
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software, especially Outlook.
• Skilled in the programming and maintenance of a computer based HVAC system.
• Ability to interpret building codes and regulations as they relate to HVAC.
• Ability to properly install refrigerant compressors.
• Ability to diagnose problems and make recommendations.
• Ability to make estimates of materials required.
• Ability to repair and replace damaged parts and equipment.
• Ability to read blueprints, floor plans, and wiring diagrams.
• Ability to read and interpret pertinent regulations.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to withstand exposure to dust, noise, fumes, high voltage, and toxic materials.
• Ability to work or inspect in confined and/or hot spaces including but not limited to attics, crawl ways, and roofs.
• Ability to do heavy lifting, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, walk, and stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school or General Equivalency Diploma.
• Three (3) years experience installing and maintaining commercial / industrial HVAC, cooling towers, water tube boilers, and high and low voltage electrical systems.
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software, especially Outlook.
• Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.
• Demonstrated track record of reliability, responsiveness, and initiative.
• Demonstrated track record of providing excellent guest service.
• Must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays, special events, and overtime, as needed.
• Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
• Must be able to obtain, maintain, and retain a valid gaming license.
