About the Job
The Commissioning Technician will be an integral part of the final Commissioning team and will be required to participate in point-to-point system checkout, functional system testing, and resolution of operational deficiencies. This role involves managing and performing startup activities and system performance evaluations, including documenting pre-functional activities and maintaining action item lists.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct project reviews with the commissioning officer before starting a project
• Perform all pre-functional activities on a variety of project types and sizes
• Document pre-functional activities in our paperless Commissioning documentation systems
• Maintain current action item lists in our paperless Commissioning documentation systems
• Communicate job status with the project management team on a daily basis and report any issues that may impede job progress or schedule
• Collaborate with the Commissioning project management team on equipment and system startup scheduling
• Maintain the startup crew's workload to meet project deadlines
• Communicate technical details to vendors or factory representatives as needed to repair manufacturers' defects in equipment
• Mentor Commissioning Group apprentices in their assigned duties
• Troubleshoot system problems, provide solutions, and manage problem resolution through the Commissioning project management team
• Work with Test and Balance and manufacturers' representatives to resolve issues affecting system performance
• Supervise other Commissioning Technicians and Apprentices as applicable
• Coordinate with other trades to maintain the construction schedule
• Support Senior-level commissioning technicians with commissioning activities as applicable
Requirements
• 5+ years of mechanical HVAC equipment startup experience
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
• Background in the construction industry, preferably with a mechanical contractor, TAB contractor, or DDC controls contractor
• 2+ years of experience managing mechanical-related work
• Experience in servicing boilers and chillers
• Experience commissioning new construction and existing construction projects
• MCAA 40-hour Foreman Training
$90,000 - $140,000 per year, depending on experience
