Training Technologies and Support, Inc. (TTS) has an exciting opportunity for an HVAC Technician/General Mechanic to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Charleston, SC. The HVAC Technician is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing advanced HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance. This role requires a thorough understanding of sophisticated refrigeration and dehumidification systems and proficiency with energy management and computer-based control systems. The HVAC Technician must possess advanced technical knowledge of all HVAC cycles, components, and related control systems, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency for facility operations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• System Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance, diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on various advanced refrigeration, HVAC, and dehumidification systems. Ensure proper system functionality at maximum efficiency with minimal downtime. Conduct overhauls, installations, and replacements of HVAC components as needed.
• Energy Management Systems: Operate and administer minor changes to energy management computer-based control systems. Monitor and optimize system performance based on environmental conditions and facility requirements.
• Advanced Technical Operations: Understand and maintain HVAC systems, including electronic circuitry, high/low voltage electricity, pneumatic controls, and electronic sensing systems. Perform detailed diagnostics using advanced tools such as voltmeters, ammeters, psychrometers, leak detectors, and more. Maintain and repair fire dampers, zone controls, air and water flow systems, plumbing supply, and condensate systems.
• Specialized Testing and Adjustments: Test, calibrate, and adjust system components to ensure accurate sensing and response to temperature, humidity, dew points, and pressure changes. Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including circuit breakers, relays, solenoids, transformers, and motor controls.
• Facility Operations Support: Be available for early or late shifts during extreme weather conditions to perform HVAC system startup or shutdown operations. Provide on-site tours and guidance regarding HVAC systems and their functionality as required.
• Compliance and Certification: Maintain compliance with 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F, regarding refrigerant transition, recovery, and recycling practices. Document all maintenance and repair activities in compliance with regulatory and facility requirements.
Required Qualifications:
• All HVAC personnel designated to work on, operate, maintain, and (or) repair HVAC equipment or systems shall possess one or more of the following certifications:
a.) North American Technician Excellence (N.A.T.E.) Technician HVACR Service Certification
b.) HVAC Excellence Professional Level Certification
c.) UA Star HVACR Mastery Certification
• All HVAC personnel designated to work on, operate, maintain, and (or) repair HVAC equipment or systems shall maintain a minimum of 16 hours of continuing education annually from a NATE, HVAC Excellence, or UA Star recognized provider program.
• One year experience in maintaining and repairing advanced HVAC systems and components.
• Strong knowledge of energy management computer-based control systems and HVAC cycle operations.
• Expertise in electronic circuitry, high/low voltage electricity, pneumatic and electronic controls, and mechanical systems.
• Proficient in using diagnostic and testing tools such as voltmeters, psychrometers, leak detectors and megohmmeter.
• Commitment to safety and quality standards. Experience in safety and quality control, preferred.
• Possess professional demeanor, solid organizational skills, attention to detail, time management skills, problem-solving ability, and ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Possess strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required to follow instructions and coordinate effectively.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physically able to meet the demands of the position.
• Capable of receiving and maintaining a favorable adjudication on a Background Investigation and of meeting eligibility requirements for access to government computer systems and or facilities.
