JOB SUMMARY:
The HVAC/R Technician is responsible to Management or the HVAC/R for the efficient performance of a wide range of service-related HVAC/R activities for industrial and commercial customers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Performs routine HVAC/R service and installation activities with limited or no supervision on or off site.
• As Assigned serves as a member or leader of a company team organized to address major HVAC/R service or installation jobs in an efficient, timely, and profitable manner.
• As assigned, conducts non-service work in support of other company HVAC/R activities.
• When required operates, maintains and secures a company vehicle in accordance with instruction discussed in the Company Employee Handbook.
• When required conducts periodic on call (after-hours work) duty.
• Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school graduate; graduate of a post-high school HVAC/R institution of two or more years in duration.
• Three or more years of successful and full-time HVAC/R experience, preferably as a service or installation technician.
• Good writing, verbal, and reading skills, including the ability to read and apply manufactures' instructions.
• Ability to clearly communicate with customers, management, suppliers and co workers.
• Physical and sensory ability to perform the duties noted above under the conditions and extremes found in the day to day operations of the company.
• Active member of RSES pursuing certificate member status.
• Current refrigerant handling certification approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
• Requirement to maintain personal HVAC/R skills and knowledge through a combination of self-study, company training, or manufactures' workshops.
• Current and unblemished State vehicle operator's license; ability to operate all vehicles in the company fleet safely after proper instruction and training; insurable.
• Knows and practices good work and safety habits.
• Ability to work successfully under the pressures of time, adverse weather conditions, customer demands, and diverse scheduling.
• Occasional overnight travel or extended period away from home.
• Able to diagnose and correct all service problems regarding refrigeration, electrical, heating and air conditioning systems.
• Needs little supervision and limited instruction.
• Must have confidence in abilities.
DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
Customer-based activities require an individual who possess traits of decisiveness, initiative, tact, judgment, integrity, dependability, and the ability to communicate in a technically credible manner. A HVAC/R Technician must be able to diagnose equipment problems accurately and quickly and organize a job efficiently to the mutual benefit of the customer and the company. Job-related contact can occur within virtually all demographic groups, although most working contacts will be served customers, and other company co workers. Daily job stress will range from minimal to extreme based on such factors as the weather, site considerations, time constraints, sales potential, travel requirements, and customer needs. An average workday will be moderately stressful.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical/Environmental Conditions: This position requires working primarily in customer places of operation. Ability to work with scaffolding, lifting and moving equipment, and ladders. Being physically fit and good hand /eye coordination are required.
Cognitive/Mental Requirements: This position requires the abilities in the areas of reading; writing; simple arithmetic; initiative; tact; judgment; dependability and ability to diagnose problems. Skills in refrigeration theory, welding, brazing, soldering, electrical circuitry, and wiring diagrams are required.
Equipment, Tools, Materials Used: Technicians' tools and equipment used in this position includes electrical meters, thermometers, hand tools, power tools, pipe cutters, shears, scales, vacuum pump, refrigerant recovery equipment and torches, forklifts, power-lifts, heavy materials handling equipment.
