The HVAC Installer/Service Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. This role requires technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and excellent customer service abilities.
Key Responsibilities
Installation
• Install HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductwork, and ventilation systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Ensure installations comply with local codes, manufacturer specifications, and industry standards.
• Test system functionality and performance after installation.
Maintenance
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
• Clean, inspect, and replace system components such as filters, motors, and coils.
• Diagnose potential issues and recommend corrective actions to prevent breakdowns.
Service & Repair
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems and components.
• Replace defective parts and test equipment to ensure proper functionality.
• Calibrate thermostats and other system controls.
• Provide emergency repairs as needed.
Customer Interaction
• Communicate effectively with customers to explain system issues and recommend solutions.
• Provide cost estimates for repairs and installations.
• Educate customers on system operation, maintenance tips, and energy efficiency practices.
Compliance & Safety
• Follow all safety protocols and wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Adhere to OSHA standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
• High school diploma or GED required; technical school training preferred.
• EPA Section 608 Certification (Type I, II, III, or Universal) required.
• Additional certifications (e.g., NATE, HVAC Excellence) are a plus.
Experience
• 1-3 years of experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, or repair.
• Proficiency with HVAC diagnostic tools and equipment.
